Montie Carl Banks, 1959—2017
From the Leaf Requester, a DESC staffperson: “Montie passed away at the shelter, which he called home since early 2015. He was an independent and self-sufficient man, up until his death in January when he lost his battle to cancer. Montie had many friends at DESC and was loved by his community. Pamela Brown, 1954—2016
Pamela was a beloved longtime Morrison resident who died in October 2016. According to her friend Red Rock, Pamela was a kind, generous, loving person who often cooked extra food for others. “She wasn’t schizzy like the rest of us;” just a nice person, said Red Rock. Francisco “Frank” Granado, 1960—2014
From Frank’s friend Tarja: Frank was born 12/12/1960, in Texas. He was homeless at the time of his death on 4/11/2014. After living in several cities and states across US Frank came to Seattle in early 2002, staying first at a downtown shelter. We have been friends ever since. He straightened his life around and got a good job and housing. He was a respectful, very compassionate, generous, funny, loving and caring man, with a great sense of humor. Lizzie was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia “Patty” (née Wright) Betts. Lonnie Nelson, 1932—2014
Madelon Sue “Lonnie” Nelson was a Seattle labor activist, published poet, and longtime Communist Party member active in campaigns for nuclear disarmament, Native American rights, and police accountability. Lonnie had her own ‘hard times’ in the past (that she never discussed in detail). This made her fit right in wherever she went, with people of all backgrounds and circumstances. Jon Stuart “Stu” Wright, 1962—2013
Stu was in SHARE for many years and also in SHARE2, a housing-for-work program. Friends from SHARE and SHARE2 found Stu to be a great person, friendly and well-loved in the community. He spoke highly of his friends and family and was an avid lover of 80’s music. Those who knew him saw him transition out of his quiet shell into someone totally positive and outspoken. Wes Singletary III, 1970—2009
Wes was known and loved in the SHARE community. The SHARE Power Lunch requested a Leaf of Remembrance for him, to be placed at the Seattle Central Library because, as his friend Lantz Rowland said, “I STILL look for him there every time I go there.” Wes was an accomplished cook, and loved books and acting. He faithfully prepared food for the SHARE Power Lunch for many, many months, and made a point of making chef-quality meals for his compatriots. One of his specialties was chicken almondine. From Homeless Remembrance Project Committee member Colette: “David recently passed away after a long battle with heart failure. I sadly did not get to know him well, but his medical team at Pioneer Square Clinic and Harborview Medical Center speak very highly of him. Friends have said: “Birdie was the most loving and caring person I’ve ever met. She is remembered still by people who have only met her for a moment.
