• Seattle Justice Center Dedication Photos 9/12/18

    We had a very special, very emotional dedication of new Leaves of Remembrance at the Seattle Justice Center on September 12th. Sabrina Tate’s father, Tommi Tate, her mother Kellie Sevier, and a brother drove from Spokane for the ceremony. Her father said, “Now we have a place to come in Seattle to remember.”

  • Ballard Leaf Dedication September 9, 2018

    Sixty people gathered at Ballard Commons Park on September 9, 2018, to dedicate seven new Leaves of Remembrance, for Joshua Edward Thelen, Terry Cunningham, Vernon Maendele, Gregory “Greg” Nichols, Roxanne “Roxy” Baker, Kay De Witt Matteson, and Bevin Rebecca Armstrong.

  • Zachary “Zack” Lewis, 1973—2011

    7/22/73–3/6/2011 From a friend of Zack’s: Zack Lewis’s body was found on the corner of Republican and Federal Street, in Capitol Hill. He was living in a Downtown Emergency Services Center housing unit at the time of his death, and was known and loved there.  An impromptu memorial popped up at Fed/Rep (where a park now is) almost immediately.   • Charles “Casper” Shipley, 1973—2008

  • Chad Rogers, 1972—2016

  • Susan Kelley, 1955—2013

    Susan Kelley was a beloved Real Change vendor on Capitol Hill, outside the 15th Ave City People’s Mercantile (now Walgreens). From Susan’s obituary in Real Change, written by Alex Becker: “Real Change Vendor Susan Kelley passed away Oct. 9. She was 58. When I interviewed Susan in August 2009 for a vendor profile, she gave me this advice: “You can sit and snivel and complain about things that you have no control over in your life, or you can just go forward with it. For me, going forward’s worked.”

  • Erin Martinez 1976—2015

  • Annelise Harrison, 1986—2015

    Annelise Harrison was murdered in Bellevue. She was just 29 years old.  For more photos and stories of Annelise, visit her memorial page here. At the Women in Black vigil held for Annelise in July 2015, we were honored to have been joined by her dear friend, Jennifer, who asked for her Leaf to be placed at our vigil site.   • Michael Wurtz, 1940-2014

    From a coworker at Lazarus Day Center: “Mike grew up in the New Miami Hutterite Colony near Conrad, MT.  He left the colony in the early 1980s and came to Seattle, where he lived on the streets.  Mike worked the front desk of the Lazarus Day Center for more than 19 years.  He knew the names and stories of thousands of people and cared deeply for everyone he met.” Mike’s Leaf is placed at the Seattle Justice Center.   • Gerald Lyle Peters, 1957—2007

    Gerald had been homeless for many years; he was involved with the Union Gospel Mission, but the Market was his stomping ground. Gerald was Belinda “Storm” Springer’s partner.   • Sabrina Tate, 1990—2018

    Sabrina died in a SODO RV lot at the age of 27. She was beloved, and is survived by her parents and two sisters. From a Seattle Times article on Sabrina and her death: “Growing up, Sabrina was sweet and shy. She loved animals, played the violin… She was a sweetheart… loving and good.” Sabrina’s Leaf is placed at the Seattle Justice Center.
