  • Michael Mensik 1962-2019

Michael was known and loved at several locations.  From Canon Britt Olson of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church:  Michael was housed at the time of his death but spent a lot of time in the Ballard neighborhood and at the Edible Hope Kitchen.  His street name was “the Professor.”  He was so very smart and knowledgeable and carried a leather briefcase.  One day  I overheard Michael lecturing another guest on the merits of the contemporary painter David Hockney.    From Theresa Shepherd-Lukasik of St. Joseph Parish:   Michael came to our 2019 HS Confirmation Mass, which he has a picture of on his Facebook page. I suspect he was also known in other day centers and ministries. He passed away due to heart complications, while staying with a friend. “Lee was the consummate volunteer – for years – he would come…

  • Missing our Leaves?

It’s autumn already, and the leaves are starting to fall. The Homeless Remembrance Project’s Leaves of Remembrance are scattered in Seattle sidewalks, and our unique public memorial is needed more than ever. But, while the number of homeless deaths is heartbreakingly on the rise, due to the pandemic, we were unable to dedicate and place beautiful bronze Leaves of Remembrance this past season. We’re creating an ambitious work plan for new Leaves in new and old locations in 2021, and we’re grateful for your patience, solidarity and support.
