From his niece Kadesh Hendricksen: I called Uncle John ‘Moses’ because he was a very spiritual man with the mind of an engineer. Everyone else knew him as Viking Man. He was born and raised in Seattle. He grew up in a house a few blocks up the street from Gasworks Park, his Grandparents lived in Wallingford. His favorite place to hang out was the little park with the temple structure; he was Norwegian but loved the Asian community. Defiant to the end, he refused to live anywhere else even when housing was offered just outside the city. He and his younger brother were inseparable, living in a tent together…

Christy died on 8/4/20 at NW Dock Place and Leary Avenue NW, in a tent, by OD. Women in Black stood vigil. Her husband Eddie Williams stopped by the Dedication of a Leaf for Random Roads to make the request. He said she died at Ballard Food Bank, and that she loved the Ballard library. Phillip Dean, born January 19, 1982 From Rebecca, a friend and neighbor: “Phillip hung out in Ballard and downtown when on the streets. From requester Kathryn Whitehill: James, known to friends in Lake City as Jimmy or Boston Jimmy, was a beloved member of our community. He was a veteran. He always brought a joyful, upbeat presence to our program, and always greeted staff by name. He looked after his friends and fellow neighbors experiencing homelessness. He will be missed. Becky was born June 26, 1964. She received services in Lake City for several years and is remembered in the homeless community there. She died in August 2021, in a popup camp in Woodland Park. Elliott Donnell Yearby Jr 4/24/1990-12/16/2019 From Pastor Jonathan of Seattle Mennonite Church: Debra Summers, deceased, raised Elliott with his uncle, Jay Steward, and his cousins Sean Summers and Jamie Mahn. He was her life and she was his life. The four children were inseparable.
