John Carsten Plate Jr., 1948—2012
John Plate was a longtime member of the Lake City community. As far as we know all of John’s immediate family members preceded him in death, including his parents and sister, his wife and son.
John was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his family drove across country moving to Everett when John was a year old. He worked with his father on a crab boat for 13 seasons, starting at a young age.
John served in the US Army, in an infantry division, he was a Vietnam vet – two tours. After Vietnam John went back to commercial fishing in Alaska for some years. John also worked on the railroad for many years, replacing ties and tracks.
Some years ago John moved to Seattle and spent many years here in Lake City, on the streets for some 15 years before moving into McDermott Place.
John’s Leaf is located at Seattle Mennonite Church in Lake City.
