Alex was born in 1984 and died in 2025. Alex’s Leaf is located at the South Park Library, where local residents remember him yelling, “Thank you, South Park Library!” as he left.  Now, a local preschool teacher and children do the same in Alex’s honor! Daniel Goodwin was born in 1981 and died in 2022.  He was the longtime and loved partner of WHEEL leader Sharon S.  His Leaf was dedicated on August 3rd, 2026, at St James Cathedral.  In her inimitable way, Sharon remembers him as “a handsome, fine dude.”  He was a talented Portland Art Institute student, and very smart.  He did a lot of looking out for others including his partner Sharon. Carla Reese was born in 1957 and died in 2025. Carla was an elder and a leader at the WHEEL Trinity Shelter.  She often chaired House Meetings and was a faithful participant in Women in Black.  She was a strong but tenderhearted woman.  She died not long after she got permanent housing.  Her son, Joseph Martinez, was also known and loved at Trinity Shelter, as he used to visit his mom frequently.  He also died shortly after getting permanent housing.  Their Leaves were placed next to one another on August 3rd, 2026 at St James Cathedral.                             …
