Photos of Solstice Vigil December 21, 2017
On December 21st, the longest night of the year, WHEEL/Women in Black held our annual Winter Solstice Vigil, reckoning with the 90 homeless people who’ve died outside or by violence so far this year. In the midst of this grief, our hearts were warmed by the huge community turnout—thank you! After reading the names at sunset by the Tree of Life in Victor Steinbrueck Park, we left 90 battery-operated tea-lights burning at the Tree, and proceeded with lit candles through Pike Place Market to Westlake Park, where more than 70 people stood candlelight vigil for an hour. A flood of love like this is what will turn the tide of homelessness and death.
